Water Blessing
2002, acrylic on canvas, 27.5 x 36", by Jenny Badger Sultan
One of my few paintings based on a photograph. We were in Bhaktapur, a World Heritage Site in Nepal, resting in the shade of a tree near the river. Two women entered this small shrine and placed a terracotta vase on a stand over a Shiva lingam sculpture so that water rained down on the yoni/lingam from perforations in the bottom of the pot. A beautiful devotional act.
