Arduous Journey
2015, acrylic on unstretched canvas, 36 x 77”, by Jenny Badger Sultan
From the beginning I envisioned this panel as a path or a journey, from the bottom which is dark and difficult, to the top. It felt like a pilgrimage, meeting up with difficult aspects of my psyche: torment, anger, envy and jealousy, mental confusion, sadness, depression... then going on to meet some positive figures, the baby, the confident young girl, the insect people, the women tending and nurturing plants, and finally the ancestors at the top.
